Safety Film Installation Techniques

Install successfully by (1) pre-cutting to exact size or (2) pre-cutting oversize and trimming to frame.

Use baby shampoo and distilled water for clearer dry-out and easier application. Spray adhesive and glass thoroughly — no dry spots — before positioning.

• Use both hands and body leverage
• Overlap each pass by ~50%
• Angle the blade slightly away from the previous pass
• Slow strokes with firm pressure; blade ~45° to glass
• Flatter film = better optics

First pass: spray, anchor from center horizontally to split left/right, tack the top completely, wipe frame so solution cannot run back under film, then finish the field and trim if needed.

Second pass: remove trapped water pockets; inspect straight-on and at an angle.

Dry pass: hard card or five-way with paper towel — short strokes around the perimeter to push residual solution to the frame.

Best results come from pre-cutting to exact size (film handler or liner-on trim). Mounting solution choice matters even more on thicker films because dry-out is slower.

Tip for hard-to-reach glass: Unger SS channel with a power-max blade in a pro handle — still overlap 50%.

Finish by cleaning the film surface so the customer sees a clear, professional install. Always set expectations on cure time — sunlight, shade, screens, metalized coatings, and thickness all change dry-out.
